Leading think-tank for expertly vetted information for publicly disseminated publications ... shedding light and transparency
Diffide et Verifica (FDV) is a private foundation, a volunteer-based group dedicated to the forensic vetting, sourcing, and contextual analysis of public information disseminated through modern media. Originally, a loosely networked group of professionals in the early 21st Century, FDV grew quasi-public feet in 2021.
Diffide et Verifico is a private foundation (FDV), a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the forensic vetting, sourcing, and contextual analysis of public information disseminated through modern media. Its members—spanning law and litigation, journalism and editorial, medicine and public health, engineering and applied sciences, data science and statistics, cybersecurity and information assurance, finance and forensic accounting, economics, education, library and information science, history, linguistics and translation, communications and rhetoric, psychology, ethics, theology, veterans and law-enforcement analysis, small business and entrepreneurship, agriculture, and the skilled trades—also include parents and grandparents whose lived experience strengthens our work.
United by a conviction that the deliberate dissemination of false or manipulative information harms the public conscience and the human element globally, members devote and donate their spare time and expertise to uncovering bias, exposing inaccuracies, and distinguishing fact from speculation in articles, broadcasts, and other public communications.
To maintain propriety as well as its appearance, Diffide et Verifica does not accept sponsorships, nor does it accept government sponsored filing status, avoiding the trappings of the intersection of First Amendment rights and IRS restrictions tied to tax-exempt status.
Each member of the Foundation brings a proven record of precision and ethical rigor in the forensic review of information. Their work involves verifying author backgrounds, identifying ideological leanings, tracing cited sources multi-level, and testing the factual grounding of claims presented as truth.
Where an article or broadcast relies on suggestion or implication to manipulate the audience into a belief, members document that pattern carefully—often line by line—and support their findings with verifiable evidence.
FDV operates privately and securely, recognizing that those who engage in this form of scrutiny often face personal and professional risks; many members therefore work under pseudonyms to preserve safety and impartiality. While concise but more informal summaries of lesser findings are occasionally released for direct public share and benefit, the FDV's more consequential investigations—particularly those involving potentially unlawful dissemination or mass-scale public deception—are first shared directly with the responsible parties to allow correction before further action is considered. Whether issues ultimately prove legally actionable or merely negligent depends on the particular facts and circumstances of each case.
Diffide et Verificacandidly recognizes that its members, like all people, hold personal leanings. What distinguishes this body is the uncommon and intentional discipline to set those leanings aside in service of the mission: to let objectivity and accuracy—the truth, the full truth, and nothing but the truth—lead every analysis.
By coupling diverse life experience with rigorous forensic method, members ensure that the public is better served and can rely more confidently on its own judgment in daily life.
The Foundation’s mission, grounded in truth and integrity, is to ensure the public can clearly recognize when information is misleading, so they may receive and assess it with informed consent rather than fall victim to manipulation or indoctrination—without fear or favor.
